About

About The Points Standard

Canadian card marketing runs on numbers nobody is expected to check: “up to” valuations, lounge passes priced as if you’d use every visit, welcome bonuses quoted before the fee that pays for them. The Points Standard exists because those numbers are marketing, not measurement — and someone should publish the measured ones.

So we built the benchmark instead. Every card we cover gets the same treatment — a transparent Standard Score with published weights, a monthly point valuation from The Points Standard Index, and first-year net-value math that shows its work, net of fees. If a number on this site can’t be traced to an assumption you can see, we don’t publish it.

Who runs it

The Points Standard is an independent Canadian editorial operation, published by Vexiro Group, a registered business based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Every card is researched, scored, and reviewed against the same published methodology. We publish unsigned, the way The Economist does: the benchmark is the publication’s judgment, not one writer’s opinion, and The Points Standard stands behind every number. We are not owned by, affiliated with, or sponsored by any bank or card issuer, and no issuer reviews or approves our content before it’s published. Every card record carries a source URL and a last-reviewed date so you can check our work against the issuer’s own terms — and anything we get wrong goes in the public corrections log, not down the memory hole.

How it’s funded

The site may become referral-supported: some links to card products may be or become referral links, meaning we may receive compensation if you are approved for a card through them. That compensation never determines a card’s Standard Score, its position in any ranking, a verdict, or a point valuation — scores are assigned before monetization decisions are made, and the full component breakdown is published on every card page so you can check our math. The complete policy is in our Advertising Disclosure.

How we work

The standards we hold ourselves to — corrections, sourcing, and what we will and won’t publish — are in our Editorial Policy.
