For writers and researchers

Use our numbers

The Points Standard publishes what Canadian loyalty points are worth, re-marked every month with the reasoning behind each figure. Writers, newsletters and researchers are welcome to quote it. Here’s a ready-made line for each program, and every figure we’ve published.

The Points Standard values Aeroplan points at about 1.9 cents each (October 1, 2026).

That's our Standard value, for a redemption booked with some care. With no planning at all, expect about 1 cent.

What the figures mean

Every mark since the Index launched in July 2026: 71 rows across 6 releases, one row per program per release.

Releases

The Index re-marks every month, and sooner for a program whose award chart or transfer ratio changes. Published releases are never edited: a mistake is fixed in a new release and recorded in the corrections log.

Using the figures

Quote, chart or republish them, in print or online. Please credit The Points Standard, link to the page you used and give the release date. They’re editorial estimates, not guarantees, and not any program’s or issuer’s own valuation. Building them into a product, an app or a paid service? Email us first at hello@thepointsstandard.com.

Who publishes them

The Points Standard is an independent Canadian publication. No bank or card issuer owns it or has any say in what it publishes. If we add referral links, they’re disclosed and labelled, and they never set a valuation; the details are in our Advertising Disclosure. How the marks are derived is in the methodology.
