Every Canadian Tire card, ranked

A genuinely strong no-fee card for Canadian Tire loyalists: 4% at Triangle banners and 3% on groceries rival paid cash-back cards, but the income requirement and CT Money's redemption ceiling keep it a specialist's pick rather than an everyday-carry default.

How Canadian Tire credit cards work

Canadian Tire Bank issues two Triangle Mastercards, and both have a $0 annual fee. Both earn Canadian Tire Money (CT Money), which Canadian Tire says redeems $1 for $1 at its family of stores (Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark's, L'Équipeur, Atmosphere, Party City and others) and is worth nothing anywhere else.

Both cards earn the same 4% in CT Money at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark's and Atmosphere. The World Elite pulls ahead everywhere else:

Triangle Mastercard Triangle World Elite Mastercard
Annual fee $0 $0
Income requirement None $80,000 personal or $150,000 household
Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark's, Atmosphere 4% 4%
Groceries 1.5% 3% (first $12,000 a year)
Everything else 0.5% 1%
Gas+ and Petro-Canada 5¢/litre 5–7¢/litre
Insurance None Purchase protection (90 days), Extended warranty (additional 1 year)

Which Triangle card to get

  • You clear the income bar: take the Triangle World Elite Mastercard. Same $0 fee, double the grocery rate, and it adds roadside assistance, purchase protection and extended warranty.
  • You don't: the Triangle Mastercard earns the same 4% at Canadian Tire's stores with no income requirement. Revisit the World Elite once your income qualifies.
  • You rarely shop at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek or Mark's: skip both. CT Money can't be spent anywhere else, so a general no-fee cash-back card will out-earn either one.

Frequently asked questions

What credit score do you need for a Canadian Tire credit card?

Canadian Tire Bank doesn't publish a minimum credit score. The eligibility it lists is Canadian residency and the age of majority in your province or territory, plus $80,000 personal or $150,000 household income for the World Elite. Approval and your credit limit are decided on your full credit file, so no score guarantees approval.

What's the difference between the Triangle Mastercard and the Triangle World Elite Mastercard?

Both have a $0 annual fee and earn 4% in CT Money at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark's and Atmosphere. The World Elite earns 3% on groceries (vs 1.5%) and 1% on everything else (vs 0.5%), and adds purchase protection and extended warranty, but requires $80,000 personal or $150,000 household income.

Does the Canadian Tire credit card have an annual fee?

No. Both Triangle Mastercards have a $0 annual fee.

What is the Canadian Tire credit card's interest rate?

21.99% on purchases and 22.99% on cash advances, on both Triangle Mastercards.

Is the Canadian Tire Options Mastercard the same card as the Triangle Mastercard?

Yes. Canadian Tire renamed its Options Mastercards to Triangle Mastercards in April 2018, when Triangle Rewards replaced its earlier loyalty program.
