The verdict

Situational

The World Elite earns double the free card's points in every category, and its partner bonus runs to $25,000 of spending a year against the free card's $15,000. It also adds four airport lounge passes a year plus travel medical, trip and rental car insurance. It needs $80,000 personal or $150,000 household income and costs $150 a year after a free first year, so if you qualify it wins year one outright. After that, the extra points are worth about 0.33% on everyday spending at 0.67¢ a point: the fee pays for itself in points alone only past about $45,000 a year of general spending, or about $4,500 a year at Blue Rewards partners. Below that, the free card is the better keeper unless you'll use the lounge passes and insurance.
