This is a currency where the table matters more than almost any other in Canada, because value swings four- or five-fold between the best redemption and the worst. Premium-cabin awards are the whole point; the non-flight options exist, but they cash your miles out at a fraction of their worth.

What are the best Asia Miles sweet spots?
Premium-cabin oneworld awards are the core: long-haul Cathay and partner (JAL, Qatar, American) business class, where a well-booked award clears 2.5–3¢. The distance-based chart also rewards short-haul economy segments unusually well. Cathay First is the aspirational headline but rarely has award space, so we don't mark to it. Book surcharge-light carriers and originate where surcharges are capped to protect the value.
Why did Asia Miles get less valuable?
Cathay raised its premium-cabin award pricing in April 2025, and a further increase on May 1, 2026 lifted premium-economy and business bands. Cumulatively, long-haul business is roughly 40% more expensive in miles than it was three years ago — the third round of increases since 2023. Our 1.5¢ mark already reflects those cuts, which is why it sits below the 1.9¢ we assign to Aeroplan.
