Values use The Points Standard Index (per-point). WestJet Dollars are excluded — they're literally dollars (1 WestJet Dollar = $1), so a points-balance comparison doesn't apply. Editorial estimates based on observable award pricing — not guarantees.

How to use this

The most common mistake in this hobby is comparing point balances across programs as if a point were a point. It isn't: 60,000 BMO Rewards points and 60,000 Aeroplan points differ in value by more than 3x. Use this table whenever you're weighing a welcome bonus, deciding between cards, or tempted by a “huge” points offer — convert to dollars first, then decide.

For the redemption strategy behind each number — which redemptions hit the ceiling and which fall through the floor — open the program guide for your currency.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate what my points are worth?

Multiply your balance by the program's cents-per-point value, then divide by 100. For example, 50,000 Aeroplan points at 2.1 cents each is 50,000 × 2.1 ÷ 100 = $1,050. This calculator does that math across every program The Points Standard tracks, using our monthly index values.

Why is the same number of points worth different amounts in different programs?

Because point values are set by each program's redemption options. A currency with airline transfer partners and fixed award charts (like Aeroplan) can be worth two to three times more per point than a fixed-rate portal currency (like BMO Rewards). That's why comparing welcome bonuses point-for-point across programs is meaningless — always convert to dollars first.

Which loyalty points are the most valuable in Canada?

Per point, Aeroplan leads our index, followed by Amex Membership Rewards — largely because MR transfers into Aeroplan at 1:1. But per-point value isn't the whole answer: a card's earn rate matters as much as its currency's value. Our Standard Score combines both.

Valuations are editorial estimates based on observable award pricing, refreshed monthly. See The Points Standard Index for the basis behind every number and our methodology for how valuations feed card scores.
