Avion vs Aeroplan: which points are worth more?
The short answer
Aeroplan is worth more per point: 1.9¢ against Avion's 1.6¢ on our Index, but Avion is the more flexible currency. Avion points can book any travel at a 1.0¢ floor, use RBC's fixed Air Travel Redemption Schedule, or transfer to 4 airline programs. Aeroplan isn't one of them: an Avion balance can't become Aeroplan points. If you fly Air Canada and Star Alliance, earn Aeroplan directly; if you want options across airlines, Avion keeps them open.

How each one redeems
Avion: points book any travel through Avion Rewards at a 1.0¢ floor. The value is in RBC's Air Travel Redemption Schedule, a fixed chart where a set number of points covers a round-trip flight up to a maximum base fare; booked near that maximum, each point is worth well over 2¢. Aeroplan: Air Canada's own flights are priced dynamically against the cash fare, which anchors them near the floor. Partner awards are priced on a fixed distance chart, so value rises when cash fares are high — the source of Aeroplan's higher ceiling. Taxes and fees are paid in cash.
