Aeroplan vs Air Miles: Air Miles is now Blue Rewards.

The short answer

AIR MILES no longer exists. On June 1, 2026, BMO converted every AIR MILES balance into its new Blue Rewards program at 16 Blue Points per Mile, so the real comparison today is Aeroplan against Blue Rewards. Aeroplan is worth more: 1.9¢ a point on our Index against 0.67¢, because flights booked well can beat its floor, while Blue Points redeem at a fixed rate with no upside. Collect Aeroplan if you'll fly Air Canada or Star Alliance; keep Blue Rewards only for the simplicity of a fixed-value currency.

What happened to AIR MILES

BMO announced in January 2026 that Blue Rewards would replace AIR MILES, and made the switch on June 1, 2026: every Mile became 16 Blue Points automatically, and nothing expired. Blue Points redeem at 1,500 points = $10 (about 0.67¢ each), so a converted Mile is worth roughly 10.7¢, what a Cash Mile was worth before. Over 400 retail partners carried over; Shell left for Scene+. The full story is in our AIR MILES to Blue Rewards guide.

What 50,000 points is worth in each

Aeroplan BMO Blue Rewards
Easy floor $500 $335
Our Standard value $950 $335
Strong redemption $1,400+ Fixed, no upside

Aeroplan's range comes from how it's redeemed: partner awards are priced on a fixed distance chart, so a well-booked business-class seat returns far more than the cash-equivalent floor. Blue Points are a fixed-rate currency: every redemption is worth about the same.
